The Nose Knows

Been wanting to share this since a client of mine pulled me aside at a party last month...gleefully sharing with me how a marketing strategy I came up with in 2007….is still going strong for their company today!
 
I was thrilled to hear this, and really glad they have kept it up.
 
See…knowing how to position your brand, and OWN it… is really important.
 
I didn’t tell my clients what I was doing for them in 2007. They just ‘had a booth at a trade show’ and needed something to ‘give away’.
 
The hubby wanted 1500 shirts.
 
I knew him. I knew what moving 1500 shirts is like. I knew he would NOT like that.
 
Most ‘marketing and branding’ companies would have said “Sure!” We’ll sell you 1500 shirts. I said ‘No, you actually don’t want that.”
 
(Yes… I will speak the truth even if it’s not the popular opinion)
 
I followed that up with…let me go find you better options.
 
Fast forward. I ‘did my thing’. Sold them 25 shirts, a few hundred pens (every business should have branded pens)… and 250 of these Noses.
 
I always bring my strategic, business building and branding ‘mojo’ into the mix. When I came across these noses… I KNEW they would be a hit.
 
My clients… were reluctant. (Ok, the hubby was reluctant).
 
I encouraged them- and when they came in…I knew it in my gut that I guided them correctly. See… the first round of the Noses… had something printed on the bridge of the nose…and that was part of the brand strategy. We keep that a secret still for them. 🙂
 
Fast forward again... the noses…did what I knew they would. In fact, right after that, I got another 2500 noses done for them.
After that we sent 2500 more overseas and they opened up new countries to work in.
 
Eventually 2008 happened and we shifted gears in our firm. However, I saw those clients about a month ago and they are STILL using the noses and the brand strategy I taught them. It’s still working today – even better.
 
Morale of the story:
 
1. Marketing should be effective. Not expensive.
2. Taking time to work with a brand strategy expert…priceless! (Branding is more than a logo BTW
3. When marketing works… keep using it. Even if YOU are bored or tired of looking at it. One of the biggest mistakes is to let ego get in the way and change something that is not broken.
 
Right now… businesses are needing to shift their marketing efforts. If your branding and marketing is not working- let’s talk.
